Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh will observe Wildlife Week from October 2 to October 8, 2026, with the state forest department planning activities aimed at creating greater public awareness about wildlife conservation and the importance of protecting natural habitats.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Anuradha Vemuri said the week-long programme would be organised in the first week of October, as in previous years.
The department said wildlife forms an important link in the ecological balance of forests as well as in human life. Wildlife Week is intended to highlight the need to safeguard the habitats and surroundings of wild animals and encourage greater public participation in conservation efforts.
During the observance, information related to wildlife and its conservation will be shared with the general public to promote awareness and seek their cooperation in protecting the state’s biodiversity.
A special focus will be placed on children, with the aim of familiarising them with wildlife and encouraging an understanding of conservation from an early age. As part of the initiative, free entry will be allowed at Lucknow Zoo and Kanpur Zoo from October 2 to October 8.
The move is expected to provide children and families an opportunity to learn more about wildlife while visiting the zoological parks during the week.
The annual observance is intended to strengthen public awareness about wildlife protection and underline the role of collective participation in conserving forests, habitats and the species that depend on them.
